how do you make fondant baby blocks?

I'm trying to make the letter blocks for a christening cake, and I am sort of lost...Do you make the blocks out of solid fondant? Or do you take blocks of rice krispie treats and cover them with fondant squares? While we are discussing this, how do you get fondant to stick to the cake, or to other fondant? I am thinking of making those blocks, and a fondant teddy bear.

You can make your fondant blocks different ways. Making the blocks from Rice Krispie treats would probably be the easiest. After you make the blocks, ice them with buttercream to smooth it all out and give the fondant something to adhere to. Cut the fondant in squares the size for each side and attach them to the block. If you want to make contrasting numbers, letters, and figures on the blocks, you can cut those out separately and attach to the fondant squares by using a glue made of:
FONDANT GLUE
use a small amount of fondant and thin it with drops of water until it is the consistency of glue.

You could also make the blocks from cake...freeze the cake, then crumb coat with buttercream icing and continue as above instructions.
AND...........
A third choice would be to cut the squares for the blocks and let them dry for a few days...then glue the squares together (similar to building a gingerbread house). Using this method you would have a hollow block made from fondant.

Unless the blocks are going to be very small, I would not make them from solid fondant. If you wanted them the size of sugar cubes though...you could cover each sugar cube with fondant...in which case, I would just take a piece of fondant and fold it over the entire sugar cube....work with it to get it nice and smooth.

COVERING THE CAKE....................
When covering a cake with fondant, you first put a thin layer of buttercream icing or a thin layer of fruit preserves (like apricot). on the cake. You then roll out the fondant and drape it over the cake. To get the fondant to stick to other fondant you use a glue like I mentioned above.

Baby Safety in the Home

Is your home safe for your baby? Your home may feel like a safe sanctuary to you, but to your baby, it could be a mine field. Get your house ready for baby by taking these precautions:

- Keep potentially toxic items (such as cleaning agents, medicines, vitamins, toiletries, mothballs, poisons, paint, oil, gas, harmful plants, and other potentially hazardous items) out of your child's reach and utilize locks/latches on cabinet doors for added protection. Special note: Keep purses and bags out of your baby's reach also, since these hold potentially hazardous items.

- Post the number for Poison Control (800) 222- 1222 near your phone.

- Ensure all smoke and carbon dioxide detectors are functioning properly and check the batteries every week.

- Cover all electrical outlets with appropriate covers or block with furniture. Special note: Some commonly used outlet covers are potential choking hazards. Look for outlet covers that cover the entire outlet or require an additional step to remove. You may even want to consider changing the entire outlet to a tamper resistant one.

- Secure any loose cords (electrical and blinds/drapes) to prevent accidental strangulation.

- Never leave your baby unattended on any elevated surface (i.e. sofa, changing table, high chair, beds, etc.). Be sure to use your safety harnesses.

- Utilize safety belts/harnesses whenever possible (i.e. high chairs, swings, changing table, strollers, etc.).

- Keep plastic bags, balloons, string, and rope out of your baby's reach to prevent suffocation and/or strangulation.

- Ensure stair and porch railings are no wider than 4 inches apart. If the railings are wider, then cover with banister guards to prevent falls and/or entrapment.

- Never leave pets unattended around your baby.

Get down on the floor and look at each room through your baby's eyes.
