5 Reasons Why You Should Bridge Climb in Sydney

Along with the Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the visual icons that will forever be associated with the city in your mind. If you decide to climb it, though, you'll have a radically different understanding of the bridge itself! The Bridge Climb is one of the most-loved activities in the city, for locals and tourists alike. If you're backpacking in Sydney , here are the top 5 reasons you should make time to go on a Bridge Climb.

Because the twilight and dawn climbs are stunning

If you have fully functional eyes and visual cortex, you probably won't think of Sydney as a beautiful city! It's a lot of fun, very friendly and vibrant, but can be a little crowded. However, if you do the bridge climb, you get an entirely different perspective on the city. Grey turns into the radiant pinks, deep blues and pastel purples of sunset or dawn. Narrow streets are transformed into a cityscape … and quite a beautiful one at that! It's breathtaking - and an entirely new view of the city you're visiting.

Because it can help you get over your fear of heights

The controlled exposure method is great for overcoming fears. If you have a mild fear of heights, the controlled environment of the Bridge Climb is a great setting to help you get over it. You have experienced guides with you every step of the way, as well as carabiners, ropes, chains  and handholds all around. Of course, if you are likely to suffer a panic attack as soon as you open your eyes, a more gradual exposure would be recommended .

All of the climb leaders on the major program are specially trained to help climbers with a fear of heights. It really is an amazing sense of achievement!

Because health and safety precautions are incredibly stringent

There are quite a few types of people that are  excluded from the Bridge Climb because of medical conditions - pregnancy, recent surgery, epilepsy and heart conditions can exclude people from the climb … and this is for the safety of all climbers. Obviously, health and safety precautions are incredibly stringent, due to the inherent danger of being up so high. There are handrails all the way along, and there is never a time that are not strapped to a railing. You wear a special jumpsuit designed for the experience, also.

Because you can do it in all sorts of weather

Unlike other tours which are likely to be cancelled in adverse weather, the Bridge Climb runs in all conditions - apart from electrical storms and extremely high wind.
