Why is the laptop screen black?

I got a toshiba laptop and when I played with ot it acted fine. But after my fiancé got it when he turned it on the screen stays black, but everything else is on and working. What can this be? And what's an easy possible way to fix it.

The issue seems to be with the corrupted display drivers. You can fix the problem by reinstalling the drivers by connecting the laptop to an external monitor.
