Black Patchwork Quilted

Room Decorating?

I am trying to redesign my room. It has always had a sort of mod look about it but I just bought a really girly comforter that I want to design it around. It's a flowery patchwork quilt with white and shades of pink. I only see this going one of three ways: very childish, very old lady or country girl. And I am none of those. I have a lot of black and white posters: Audrey Hepburn, James Dean, and more Audrey Hepburn. They worked with my old color scheme which was black and pink, but now I am afraid I won't have enough color in the room. I can't anyone's take on this? Not to mention does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to make sure my room doesn't look like any of the above stereotypes which I am not a part of. I am girly, I love fashion, and old celebrities, but I am afraid this quilt will make me seem as though I am right out of little house on the prairie if I don't offset it with something else.

1] pick the brightest one or two colors from the quilt, and add accessories in that color - toss pillows, lamps, vase/planter,
ornaments, candles, candleholders OR.....
add a hot contrasting color - lime, lemon, tangerine, turquoise
2] pick a bright pink [ or the 'hot' color ] from the comforter for walls
3] add throws/pillows/chair/lounge in velvet, satin, or 'fur' - all non-country fabrics
4] modern, sleek frames for posters - black, chrome, or brass
5] furniture should be classic - not white, or 'antique', or black
6] add lace bedskirt and curtains - tie backs in pink or hot color velvet or satin
7] get rid of all 'childish' decor[ toys/pics ], any 'granny' [ hurricane lamp, old non family pics ] decor, and concentrate on thinking 'old hollywood' - lush fabrics, gold [ brass], silver [ chrome ] accents
8] a ruffled or lacy dressing table would be gorgeous - great [ backstage ] lighting essential! Store items in pretty jars or canisters
9] dress up your closet - maybe frame outside in velvet ribbon and lace. Organize and spruce up inside too - shelf dividers, shoe racks
10] use collections of accessories as decor - a hat rack of handbags, a row of hooks with vintage necklaces
11] full length mirrors on closet doors
12] how about a flokati or leather shag rug?

In school, memorization was standard teaching. It could be a poem someone in the school wrote, or a friend of the teacher, or even the teacher. It was not like the Gettysburg address and Preamble I had to memorize. They were not necessarily famous passages. It was an exercise in memorization.

My grandmother had one she remembered her whole life, and I don't think it was a published work, just a moral through a story she had to memorize.

If your grandmother doesn't remember the author, then it probably wasn't an important one or one the teacher felt should be memorized also.
