Smash hit London musical Wicked has conjured up box office magic by grossing £100 million in the United Kingdom. The production has notched up more than 1,500 performances and been seen by approximately three million people. UK executive producer Michael McCabe said he was "pleased" at the £100 million milestone. He said "We are delighted that the extraordinary momentum we have experienced since opening in 2006 has now achieved matured sales of £100 million."We are particularly proud to have achieved this incredible success with advance sales also at their highest point in three years during a period of such global financial uncertainty." The Wicked musical, at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre, is based on the novel, Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire.
