How do you make a candle holder out of a wine bottle & keep the wax from dripping on the table, etc?

I am using a drip candle in a wine bottle. I want the wax to drip down the bottle, like the 60's. It splatters, however and wax is getting on the table. Are there any tricks to do it the correct way like they did in the "Hippie" era????
