Postal Workers: Would you take a gift from a resident?

I've often thought of leaving my postal carrier a bottle of water, an reeses cup or a thank you card. How do I let them know to take it for themselves?
My postal worker is female. No I don't need a backdoor relationship. Making one person happy is challenging enough. ) I do think you should give credit where its do though. She is always on time. Will give a little knock when my packages come, not just leave it in the weather, and she's friendly.

Our mail is delivered to our house and I know our postman's name so I put his name on a card. If you don't know their name just put "to our wonderful mail carrier."

At Christmas I make up a basket of goodies for my mailman. We have had the same one for about 10 years and he is wonderful. Last year I was short on time so I got a gift certificate to a restaurant.... $25 and threw in some cookies and a jar of mixed nuts.

If I have just baked some cookies, I will catch him and give him a baggie full.

It pays off too... there have been a few times where something has come with postage due and he has paid it for me and left me a note. The next day I just leave the amount in an envelope for him with a thank you note.
