Change Pacifier

Please settle this debate between me and my husband.Can a baby be addicted to their pacifier?

Our little girl is 8 weeks old and fusses if we take the pacifier out of her mouth.This is after she has had a bottle,been changed and everything. The minute we put the pacifier in.....baam quiet!! He says she is too young to be addicted to anything.He wants to give it to her when she is happy...I say only to give it to her when she is cranky. What do you think?

My son wants his pacifier only when he is sleepy. He will WAIL until we give it to him and then go right to sleep. It will fall out of his mouth but he won't need it the rest of the night. I don't know about being addicted to it but it is a comforting thing for babies to suck. I wouldn't give it to her when she is happy. A pacifier is supposed to help pacify/soothe not just to suck on continuously.
