Can I dye my baby blue cotton pants a teal color? How would I do that?

I want to dye my cotton/polyester baby blue pants a teal, which is a darker color. Am I able to do this? Who could I take this to? Can they also match a color of my shirt? Any information is greatly appreciated.

As long as your pants have a higher percentage of cotton than polyester, then yes, dyeing them from baby blue to teal is very possible. It's always easier to go from light to dark, and it's always best to stick to the same colour group. Since teal is a blue based colour, you shouldn't have too much trouble and the results should be quite satisfactory. Matching the dye to another piece, such as a shirt -is a whole 'nother story and far less likely. Opt to make the pants a bit darker teal than your shirt and it should look fine, as it's better to wear a lighter top with darker bottoms.

To dye at home use a home dye such as RIT and follow the instructions on the bottle or package. Don't use the washing machine, use a large plastic bucket that you don't mind turning teal. Make sure the item has plenty of room to swish around. Pre-wet the item to be dyed, place in the dye vessel and allow to saturate the item. Be sure the item isn't bunched up or crinkled or you will end up with a crinkled mottled look. Allow the dye to process for as long as the instructions say, then rinse and allow to dry. Wash your pants inside out with cold water, some excess dye will come out after a couple washings but after that it should be colourfast.

Or you can take it to a dry cleaner who does dyeing, You'll need to check the ads in the phone book to find one. It's a bit more money than do it yourself, but it is an option..

can you get baby oil out of clothes (cotton) that have been washed?

It wasn't baby oil actually it was more of a cooking oil substance

Take it to the dry cleaner, tell exactly what's on it and what you did to try and get it out. And pray she's good, my dry cleaning lady got ink that exploded on a homemade crochet blanket after I tried five times to get it out. Phew, she really saved that afghan.
