Any tips for Moms & Dads to avoid forgetting child in the car? Let's help avoid tragedies!?

I saw in the news the other day a dad forgetting his daughter in the car parked in a Metro Station in Maryland. I've heard things like this over and over and sometimes it results in a tragic death. This has never happened in my family, but let's help other Moms & Dads by coming up with ways to avoid this.

This happens mostly when the day is out of schedule. For example, when Dad drives child to daycare when it's normally Mom's duty (or vice versa).

My tip: If you have the child with you, put the diaper bag in the front seat as a visual reminder that you have a child with you.

If you don't have a diaper bag, put your briefcase in the back so that when you reach for it before leaving the car, you can see that you have a child with you.

parents of small children will tell you, although a rare, these are tragic stories. Every parent has had an occasion when the 'almost' forget the baby is in the car....it tends to be the only time little ones are quiet!! Put something up in the front of the car with you...to remind you that the baby is in the car...a diaper bag, a sticky note...whatever it takes.
