Diaper Bag Organization
Need a catchy name for a project I'm starting maybe diaper pals?
Also besides the women shelters where else could I find women who would benefit from getting a diaper bag of supplies. An organization that provides underprivledged mothers with a new diaper bag filled with formula, diapers, blankets, bottles, wipes, jacket, socks, etc. to help them provide for their babies that otherwise wouldn't have a chance.
Homeless shelters, battered women, Perhaps a hospital in the more poor side of town, The police can probably give you some more ideas if you call and ask.
The only thing is, this is for needy women, you may want to not include the formula/bottles. If these are needy women, not all women can get to the WIC office, a lot of places only have one office, some one without transportation it can be a bit far. [For example - I had no insurance, and I could not get state insurance when I was pregnant because I could not get across Vegas to the office to keep following up all the info they needed, it happens] You do not want to start a woman on formula who can not afford it, or get to WIC, and in the beginning days those formula samples look pretty good, and turn off a lot of BF mother's.
Why not instead include breast feeding information, work with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, she may help you get a pamphlet together to include in your care package. [About latch, how often babies feed, how many diapers to watch for, etc]
One other idea is Medela has lanolin samples[a god send those beginning days of nursing], you can try writing Medela and requesting a bunch of samples to help out with your packages. Just explain to them what you are doing, they'll probably help!
