Diaper Shoulder My son holds his breath when he cries?
When my 5 week old gets his diaper changed sometimes he cries so hard he holds his breath and turns red and purple. It scares the crap out of me! I have to pick him up and put him on my shoulder to get him to breath. He gets sooo hysterical. Has anyone else been through this, is it normal?
Yes ma'am! My 3 week old has been doing that since we brought him home from the hospital. It scared me at first, but I know he wouldn't suffocate himself on purpose. And I don't do much about it, I know he'll breath. If I'm in a weird mood and it actually scares me more, I'll rub his face or his lips, or like someone else said, blow in his face a little.
Your baby will be fine. Mine has been doing it every diaper change almost and has been perfectly fine.
I think its just that he's cold. I had to change him once while we were out and the place kept their bathrooms really warm, like REALLY warm... And he didn't cry. Which sucked, because I'll let him cry for 15 seconds or so to make sure he's peed so I don't get squirted with his little watergun... But since he didn't cry, I got peed on. Not to mention the changing table was gross so I had to lay my hoodie down and poop got on that as did the pee. I was so cold for the rest of th night lol. But you gotta do what you gotta do... Especially for the sake of our babies!
