Dot Stucco

Is it possible to apply plaster directly over stucco? Will it stick? Will it crack?

This is for an exterior wall that was remodeled and is now an interior wall. I want it to look less outside-ish. The wall has curves in it so I do not want to just put drywall on it. If I can apply plaster directly over it, what type? For example- can I use regular "mud" or joint compound? TNT? Hamiltons? Green dot? Or do I need to use something like USG diamond plaster base coat?

hi, im sorry but i will have to answer this from the UK perspective. I would have thought you would be ok, but it will depend on how "rough" your stucco (UK = render) is. If it was me I would chip off any large ridges/ peaks and then apply a coat or two of sealant to seal the wall - PVA glue watered down 50:50 will do. Leave this to dry then apply 2 coats of what we call Multifinish (basically a finishing plaster). Job done!
