G Diapers Medium

I have several questions about cloth diapers! Please help! Thanks!?

I used cloth diapers off and on with my son, but really just to get a hang of it. I have about 10 medium sized diapers and about 3 g diapers. I plan on doing cloth diapers for my baby that is due in October, but have several questions:
1. Is it possible to have a cloth diaper shower? How could I manage this since there are no places around us that sell cloth diapers and they'd have to either find specialty stores or buy them online?
2. How many newborn diapers will I need? And how many of whatever is the next size? I am just not sure how many to buy of each.

I would love to have a diaper service, but we live out in the country and that is not available to us.

If you want cloth diapers at a shower, I would go to wishpot.com or a similar website and create a wish list of diapers from different websites. Cottonbabies.com is probably my favorite.

What I'd do for a newborn is get 6-8 Bummis covers and a wagonload of prefolds, plus a Snappi or two to fasten them. (The Snappi replaces the diaper pins of 20 years ago, and it's supposedly easier. I haven't used mine yet but I can't wait to try it.) You can use the Bummis covers more than once, just changing the prefold every time. As long as the cover itself isn't soiled, it's good to go.

I also love BumGenius diapers, but these are a little large on most newborns. We have used the one-size pocket BG's on my daughter, and love them. They lasted from around 9 months (when we started CDing) to now, and she's almost two. We have 15 or 20 diapers in our rotation and wash them every day or two. So really, how many you want depends on how much you want to spend and how often you want to do laundry. (It stinks less if you do it more frequently.) Also, with the g-diapers, you can use a prefold to stuff or sew your own insert to fit if you don't want to keep buying the flushable inserts. I think g-diapers are so cute but I haven't tried them.

How to Save Money by Cloth Diapering Your Baby

Let's assume that you can get a generic brand of diapers for $14.99 for 84 diapers (Source: Diaper Pin-Cloth Diaper Savings Calculator). On an average you would use 10 disposable diapers per day. The price for Diaper Genie Refills is an average of $4.99 and will hold about 140 diapers. (This calculation does not include the cost of going back and forth to the store, the initial purchase of a Diaper Genie, or the cost of disposable wipes.) The average time a child will be in diapers is estimated to be 3 years (1080 days).
