How can i wash my hand bag?

I have a Topshop hand bag which is made of material (not sure what type) but it has leather straps and another leather bit on the front of the bag.

It's really dirty..
It's meant to be a cream and red bag but the cream has turned a bit darker and it looks gross!

Inside the bag on the care label it has a cross through every symbol.. so i'm guessing your not meant to wash it, but its so dirty. What would happen if i washed it? How can i wash it sensibly without ruining the bag?

You should be able to hand-wash the bag using Shaving Cream for soap. Shaving Cream is nothing but whipped soap made for skin. Leather is skin. It should clean your bag and it won't hurt the leather.

It doesn't matter what brand of shaving cream you use, as long as it is white shaving cream. (I wouldn't use a shaving cream with menthol. Too strong.)

Run a few inches of water in your bathtub. Submerge the bag. Remove the bag and lather thoroughly with Shaving Cream. Submerge the bag again and rinse well.

Roll the bag in clean, dry towels to remove excess water; then hang the bag using a clothes hanger to allow it to air dry.

This works.
