how do i get through level 1 mission eight on mario kart ds?

To perform a power slide, press and hold R to hop while
holding Left or Right. When you land, you'll drift in the direction you were holding. Alternate pressing Left and Right quickly and you'll see blue, then red sparks coming from your kart. When they are red, release R and you'll be given a boost, which is the result of a power slide.
DOESNT WORK!

Starting the race - The easiest way to start off any race, whether in a mission or in a race with other people, is to watch the numbers counting down. Once it hits 2, press and hold your A button down. This will make you start with a quick boost and finish with a better time, if you maintain your speed throughout the race and avoid obstacles, such as the green pipes, in your case. Obviously, after you start the race, you will continue to hold the A button down.
Doing a power slide - This may be the source of your problem. Make sure that your kart is facing the direction of the turn, because you may slide off the track if you are facing the wrong way, and you cannot do power slides outside the track. As you are making the turn, remember to keep holding the A button down, then simultaneously press and hold the R button. Then quickly alternate pressing the right and left sides of your D pad while holding these buttons. The flames below your back wheels should flash blue, then red. After the flames turn red, release only the R button and stop alternating buttons on the D pad, but remain in control of the kart. Now you will have successfully completed a power slide, and you should see that your character will boost forward for only about a second or two. You will also see blue lines outside of you, representing wind that you have created. Don't forget to keep an eye on your time, and try to make a power slide at every turn (although you can skip the first couple, as there are more than four turns available for you to make power slides on).
Finishing the race - As I am about to cross the finish line, I like to do an extra power slide for fun. You can earn a better letter grade at the end of the race by doing extra power slides, being quick and having much time left over, and keeping on the track at all times. Instead of trying to beat the mission on your first few tries, allow yourself to take your time and get the hang of the controls, and then you can slowly work your way up to getting better times and higher letter grades.

Benny Blanco

At only 21 years old, Benjamin Levin aka Benny Blanco has done remixes and production work for some of the biggest names in electro, hip-hop and dance, from Kylie Minogue to Justince to Jordin Sparks to Britney Spears. This youngster has the added experience of being friends with some of the hipper artists in the industry, from Baltimore rap group Spank Rock to seedy LA rapper Mickey Avalon. Look for Benny Blanco to stay one step ahead in the fast paced music production industry. Bringing some of the most unique and fun beats to the radio.

Dr. Luke

Lukasz Gottwald also known as Dr. Luke or Kasz is an American songwriter, producer and remixer who has worked under legendary Swedish producer Max Martin for several years, co-producing such hits like “Since U Been Gone” for Kelly Clarkson and “Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne. Dr. Luke played guitar in the Saturday Night Live Band for ten seasons, leaving in the 2006-2007 season to focus on his work as a producer for dance and hip hop tracks. . With his recent work for artists as varied as Adam Lambert to Mos Def to Miley Cyrus, Dr. Luke is a production force to be reckoned with and he will for sure be around for a long time.

RedOne is the name for Moroccan-Swedish producer and songwriter Nadir Khayat who studied European pop music in the early 21st century and has brought that sound to the States for some of the biggest hits of the past decade including “Just Dance”, “Poker Face” and “Bad Romance” for Lady Gaga as well as work with Akon, Sean Kingston, Cassie, Lil Jon and Usher. RedOne is definitely going to be an up-and-coming pop music producer to watch out for in the States. He has already broken into popular hip-hop and R&B production so look for him to show his dominance in the coming years.
