Best way to potty train a puppy?

We recently added a 9 week old mini daschund puppy to our family!! She is too cute, very playful, her and my 4 yr old son are the best of playmates. She has also made a great companion in my 2 yr old female tiger cat. I haven't had a puppy in about 12 yrs and I don't expect miracles in potty training. I am open for any suggestions. I buy her the puppy pads which have a designated place, she only seems to use them when she is in her crate. If she has the choice of puppy pad or carpet, my carpet wins. We take her out after she eats, naps and first thing in the morning, also when we notice her sniffing around. What confuses me is we will take her out and she will go pee but when we bring her in she goes poo on the carpet. She hardly poos outside. Maybe I discipline her wrong when she goes on the carpet, I take her to it tell her bad dog and put her in her crate. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks Kristi and Bella ( woof)

the best way i have found (after potty training a yorkie and a great dane) is to put them outside every 30 minutes, or after they eat, drink, play, wake up etc, and make them stay out there until they go, walk them around, etc, they will go, then praise them. do it every 30 minutes like clockwork even if u have to wake them up, they catch on fast, i have potty trained 2 puppys like that within 2 weeks, and 1 was 5 weeks old when i got her.
