can an army spouse have facial piercings and funky colored hair?
I am going into basic training in October and my spouse already has a lip piercing in one side. She wants to get the other side done and has wanted to get her hair dyed in different colors (blue, red, pink, that sort of thing). Will the army have a problem with her living on base with it?
In general no, I have seen spouses and children with pink and other colors. I have seen spouses with piercings in different places on the face.
She may have some problems making friends with neighbors through first impressions, but for the most part the Army will not care.
The only time that it may matter is if you are deployed to certain places overseas. Europe, Japan and Korea probably wouldn't matter, but if for some reason you got an accompanied tour to Saudi Arabia, Turkey or other places in the Middle East, but these are few and far between. If your wife's appearance for whatever reason will not set a good impression to that particular country, they may deny what is called "command sponsorship."
Military bases often have dress codes though, so if she wears unusual and revealing clothing, she may have issues. There may be rules on skirt length, shirts that cover the stomach and so on. They will not say she cannot wear them in general, but she wont be able to wear them to the PX, commissary and so on. I am currently stationed in Japan and we have those types of dress codes. Individual bases have their own rules on dress codes.
