The Pittsburgh Steelers have long been considered a winning franchise in NFL history.  The record books hold true for the many championships and accomplishments achieved by this larger than life team. The name Pittsburgh Steelers was chosen because the man who purchased the team, Art Rooney, wanted to gain exposure for his other business in the steel industry. What Rooney did not know was what the return on the small investment on this Pittsburgh based team would in fact bring him, a multi-million dollar merchandise franchise. The millions of dollars of Pittsburgh Steelers merchandise sales accumulated over the decades has helped fund the rapid development of the entire Steelers organization.
