The Basics Of French Style Home Decor
The French style of interior decoration has long been regarded as one of the most classic and aesthetically pleasing styles. It's therefore no wonder that so many people enquire about variations of the French decorating style, details within those variations, and, of course, means to obtain authentic and quintessential pieces.
If you're hoping to decorate your home in the French style, it helps to first familiarise yourself with a few different variations of French décor. Many people prefer French décor influenced by Baroque, Rococo and New-Classical styles – a look accompanied by rich, opulent colours and textures, and flairs of sophistication and glamour. This particular style of décor is very luxurious, yet never over-done.
Another popular style of French décor – and arguably the most sought-after of all the French décor styles – is the French country style. Founded in the Provence region of southeast France, this style is more subdued and focuses on a palette of sunny yellows, lavenders, burnt reds, bright greens, and French blues. The colours are used in fabrics, furniture, and walls, and are often detailed with accents of black and grey. However, there's more to it than just the colours; the rustic charm of the French country style is enhanced with natural materials – such as iron, wood, and stone - used in the floors, walls, and furniture. Some of the most common fixtures within this type of décor include hand carved wood furniture for living and dining areas, hand- crafted cabinets and shelves throughout the home, mahogany armoires in the bedrooms, and motif tables in the common areas. Two of the most important elements of a French country home are also the kitchen and dining areas – so you'll want to pay close attention to these two rooms, perhaps adding a rectangular or round wooden table that seats the whole family.
Of course, once you've decided on such details of your ideal French country décor, you'll need to acquire all the various pieces that will bring this décor together. There are various ways you can do this, one of which is through the web. There are also many stores that specialise in French country style décor, and which you can physically visit for a better feel of the items. Flea markets and tag sales are also great for finding unique French décor pieces; and if you find something you'd like to change, you can always paint it or rust it yourself to give it that French country look.
Ultimately, anyone can achieve the French country style in their home. All it takes is a bit of know-how with regard to the French style, as well as French furniture and fixtures to match. The result is sure to be fabulously French.
