Can a non-traditional artist be a successful graphic designer?

Although I am not a skilled traditional artist I have always enjoyed & had an eye for art. Over the last year I have really gotten into photoshop & web design. I have been told I have a talent for layout & design. I am considering switching my major to graphic design, but am a bit apprehensive because of all of the studio drawing classes. If anyone has experience in this field, can you please tell me how important is it for a successful graphic designer to be a good sketcher? Thank you.

i'm not sure what you are trying to get at with your question. if you want to switch your major you will have to take the drawing classes, so what's the difference unless you want to know if you can do poorly in the drawing classes or not? and i don't know why you wouldn't want to do as well as you could. it certainly could not harm you to improve your drawing. do you NEED it to be a good graphic designer, perhaps not. there are lots of ways to get around it these days with all the software out there. but if you want to be more than a graphic designer and actually be an ARTIST, then yes, you need it.
