Can anyone recommend a very comfortable baby/toddler mattress?

My little guy (16 mos) will only sleep a few hours in his crib but if I lay him on our bed he has no problem. I actually tried laying on his mattress one night and after an hour I was sore everywhere, so I think it is an issue with how uncomfortable it is. He sleeps best on our fluffy down comforter on our bed. Can anyone recommend a good mattress or anything to make a toddler's mattress more comfortable? Thanks!
