Whole Roast

Where can I buy a hog for a pig roast, and how much will the whole pig cost?

I want to have a pig roast. Have any tips for starting one? How popular are they, and how should I cook the whole pig? How long?

Look in the Yellow Pages for a meat processing company. That's where beef and swine farmers take their animals to be processed (butchered). They often sell retail there and might have a hog for you to buy. If they don't, ask them to give you the name of a hog farmer they know who regularly brings in hogs to butcher. They will know of some, I promise. And, this is the place you'll bring (or have the farmer bring) the animal for processing. The one my father went to cost about 30 cents per pound. You only pay for the "hanging" weight, though. That's the weight of the hog after it's been beheaded, hoofed, gutted, and skinned...about 75% of it's body weight.

If you don't have access to a meat processing company, you'll need to go directly to the farmer. Is there a grain co-op in your area? The staff there will know of a reputable farmer.

You can also advertise in the classifieds. Something like "Wanted: hog for hog roast". Or, craigslist.com has a "farm market" section, and you can advertise there.

As for roasting a hog, you'll need a special hog roaster. The ones I've seen are usually a converted metal drum or tank, split in halves and turned on it's side, with a rack installed. You can buy them specially made, too. You can also rent one, too. Check your local rental center.

Starbucks Coffee 2-lb. Extra Bold Whole Bean Coffee, French Roast

French Roast is not for the timid. The hardiest of Latin American coffees withstand our darkest roast - an intensity which would burn less rugged beans. Blunt, smoky flavors are the objective of the roasting process and there's only a slight, residual acidity. Although it's a powerful blend, the body is light. Taste French Roast beside Espresso Roast. You may discover and uncover many tastes in the Espresso and the Italian you did not realize were there when tasting them alone. French Roast is about pleasing the palates of those who enjoy the deepest, darkest, smokiest flavor. French Roast is a combination of select Latin American beans. These beans are strong and hearty, standing up to a roast that would cause many lesser coffees to go up in flames. People often assume that darker means fuller body. Not true! People also assume that French Roast has either more or less caffeine due to its roast, which is also untrue. French Roast is great for dark roast die-hards, someone looking for a change, or as an interesting component to a do-it-yourself blend. Finding and purchasing the best green beans in the world is the first step that differentiates Starbucks Coffee from the rest of the coffee industry. Starbucks is well-known for its exceptionally high quality coffees, care in selection, and expertise in roast. Each coffee is selected for the defining qualities that distinguish its origin. This careful selection process illustrates Starbucks passion for buying and roasting the world's best coffee.

Starbucks Coffee 2-lb. Bold Espresso Roast Whole Beans

$25.9

Espresso Roast has a delicious, smooth versatility that tastes great as both a shot of espresso and brewed in a coffee press. This is one versatile coffee! It has a dense, caramel-like sweetness with a soft acidity that's delectable. An intense and balanced coffee, it's roasted somewhat darker than traditional Italian espresso. Espresso Roast's spicy aroma will permeate your kitchen and senses. This remarkable "signature" blend of Latin American and Indonesian coffees was developed in the late 1970's after months of blending and tasting. The blend was chosen with a shot of espresso in mind. The Latin American component gives it soft acidity, the Indonesian imparts depth and some spicy aroma, and the slightly darker roast gives it a caramelly sweetness. All of these attributes are intensified when this blend is used to make espresso. Starbucks Espresso Roast is quite different from most Italian versions of espresso. It is roasted somewhat darker than traditional Italian espresso and contains higher quality beans.
