Wipe Lime Brown

weird brown dots on my lime tree anyone know what they are?

i have had a key lime tree for a few years and every once in a while it gets these brown bumps all over it they aren't part of the tree because the wipe off easily but I wonder if they are harmful to the tree.

I need a little more specific info so I can tell you exactly what your problem is and how to deal with it.... Where are these bumps located (leaf surface or on the branches between the leaflets)? And what do these bumps look like as far as size and color? do they happen to be brownish in nature and look like a miniature helmet? Right now it sounds like you have a variety of citrus "scale" but we'll see when you add some more info. Below is a link with a pic of scale on a citrus branch to compare your findings.
